Listen and Learn

PodcastStudents and teachers at CIC are now creating podcasts and making them available through iTunes and the school's website. What's a podcast? Wikipedia defines a podcast as "a method of publishing audio programs via the Internet, allowing users to subscribe to a feed of new files (usually MP3s)." Students and teachers create audio programs which are uploaded to the website. You can listen to these through your web browser or by subscribing to "CIC Podcasts". As a subscriber you can listen to the podcasts on your computer, iPod, or other MP3 player any time you'd like.

How do you subscribe? First, download Apple's free music player, iTunes. The current version is 7.0, and there are versions for Mac OSX and Windows. Once you've installed iTunes, follow these steps:

  1. Start iTunes.
  2. Click on "iTunes Store" in the left-hand column. (Don't worry, CIC Podcasts episodes are free.)
  3. In the upper-right corner enter "CIC Podcasts" in the "Search iTunes" field and hit enter.
  4. The entry for CIC Podcasts should now appear.
  5. Click on "Subscribe."
  6. You've just subscribed to CIC Podcasts. The first episode should now start downloading to your computer.
  7. Click on "Podcasts" in the upper left to see all of the episodes in CIC Podcasts. You can select any of the episodes by selecting "Get."
  8. Once the files have downloaded, you'll be able to listen to them on your computer any time you'd like. If you have an iPod music player, they will be copied over the next time you connect your iPod to your computer.
  9. There are a number of options to manage your podcasts. Click on the "Settings..." button (lower-left of the window) to set these.
