Mexican Ambassador Defends International Migration by Carla Haces The UN’s Ambassador from Mexico, Claude Heller, defended the rights of all international migrants by asking the General Assembly to address the international migration issue, not only from the perspective of national security, but from a more comprehensive point of view which would include an understanding of all the social and economic factors that contribute to the phenomenon.. He noted, further, that migrants should be treated and respected as human beings worthy of all the rights that civilized countries accord human beings. He added that human dignity should be the fundamental principle by which all migrants are treated and judged. The Mexican ambassador has a particular interest in this issue
since Mexico and the United States are faced with a large immigration
problem as Mexicans cross the American border in increasing numbers in
their quest for work and a better life.
