The closing ceremony for SAMUN XVIII was quite different and interesting.
Delegates were all tired and distracted. The few last minutes before the closing ceremony had kicked off, delegates did the hula ignoring the Secretary General’s orders to come to order. The penthouse of the Corp Banca building was filled up with loud voices and laughter.
When the Closing Ceremony finally did take place, Mrs. Sweeting gave a speech, She was followed by Terence Celestina, the Co-Secretary General.
Later on, Rachel Callender, the Secretary-General, decided to make the environment of the General Assembly less formal. She passed out ironic superlatives. Some of the awards? “Can’t Stop Yawning” to Kevin Redosado, “Laziest Admin” to Jose Luis Yañez, and “Didn’t Even Know You Were Here” to Gerardo.
Once done with superlatives, the Secretary-General turned back to a more formal mode. She brought the Chair of Security Council, Victor Lopez, up to notify the GA delegates of the resolutions that had been debated, of those that had failed, and of those that had passed.
Though formal for the most part, the Chair of the Security Council spiced up his speech by adding some entertaining comments.
Once Victor had finished his speech, the ICJ judges were called out to give their speeches. Diego Redosado, the president of the ICJ, was the first to speak.
When the judges finished, the Secretary General, along with the Co-Secretary General and the president of the GA, formally declared SAMUN XVIII as over. |
