Resolutions in the Security Council: Of Nuclear Power in North Korea.

By:  The Press Team

In the Security Council, the first resolution that was debated was “the question of North Korea’s Nuclear Power Program.” The resolution was submitted by Argentina and the Russian Federation. The delegation from Greece supported the resolution by saying that it was the best non-violent resolution.

China disagreed with this resolution and proposed to strike out clauses three, four, and five. China also said that the submitters of this resolution provided no evidence of North Korea was making nuclear weapons. In contradiction of China’s amendment, the delegation of Slovakia affirmed that there had been investigations which proved the presence of nuclear weapons in North Korea.

Argentina thought that the resolution was vague and that there was a good possibility for it to cause future world conflict.

Because supporting evidence was missing, the resolution failed.
