What is the Approval Panel?

By: Julieta Brito and Erik Dell

The Approval Panel begins its work at 1 p.m. of Day Two, and the delegates wait for the Directors to read, comment on, and/or correct their resolutions. The atmosphere is calm: the delegates sit and wait outside the Approval Panel Room, talking with old or new friends and relaxing.

Delegates who have their resolutions sent back to them for correction and/or improvement run along the corridors in a hurry to get to the computer labs to correct their resolutions. Time is of the essence, and the atmosphere changes dramatically. Delegates run upstairs again to the Approval Panel for new comments and corrections, until the resolution finally gets approved. When a resolution is approved, you can feel the happiness that radiates from the submitters.

After the Approval Panel accepts a resolution for discussion, the delegates now have to wait until the next day when all of the delegates meet to discuss the approved resolutions. Some of the resolutions make it through the sessions of debate and others do not.

The delegates for the all countries then gather and discus the merits of the approved resolutions, and they vote for or against them

Good luck delegates!
