SAMUN XVIII

Recap of Day Two - November 11, 2007.

by: Yumi Ochiai

On the second day of SAMUN, buses with all the students arrived at CIC at 8:30 am. At 9:00, all delegates gathered in the General Assembly, where they were informed about today’s schedule. Then the delegates moved to their committees.

From 9:00 to 12:00, the delegates of each committee continued their work of lobbying, resolution-drafting, and resolution-merging in the library and in the high school lab.

The delegates were dismissed for lunch at 12:00 and they had an hour to eat and rest. A free lunch, which included salad, lasagna, bread, little cookies, and juice, was provided for everyone. Most of the delegates had a great time chatting with their friends and listening to music while some delegates worrying about their SAMUN job and worked hard in front of the computer.

After lunch, all the delegates were told to go to their committees and there they were informed about an emergency issue. The delegates discussed it, and each committee came up with a resolution.

After the delegates worked on the emergency issue, they continued to refine their resolutions before sending them to the Approval Panel. Once the delegates finished their resolutions, they rushed to the Approval Panel to find out whether their resolutions passed or not. If the resolutions needed some corrections, committee members had to go and improve them before passing them back to the Approval Panel where they hope that they will be passed.
