Tolerance is the Key:  An Interview with Ms. Catherine Royle

By: Julieta Brito Devoto

Although Ms. Catherine Royle, the United Kingdom’s ambassador to Venezuela, has been involved in other types of UN simulations before and has organized many events of the type, she said that this was her first time at CIC’s SAMUN.

Ms. Royle believes that SAMUN is an extremely valuable experience because of what the delegates learn in the process, because of what they learn about domestic and international politics.

She considers SAMUN to be a great opportunity for the delegates to learn important things about diplomacy because people have to respect other opinions, and find ways to help other people to get what they need and want. She thinks that SAMUN promotes all of these things. Furthermore, it helps delegates realize that things take time and that the world is a complex place. According to Ms. Royle, one learns many important things from that process.

Her message to the delegates is: “Never give up, and always keep in mind the need for tolerance”
