The average tenure for a CIC employee today is over a decade, with a majority holding advanced degrees. Recently hired teachers have at least 5 years of experience, hold an advanced degree, and articulate comfort with living in Venezuela. At CIC, the initial employment contract is for two years for overseas teachers and one year for local hires. Salary and benefits are consistent with schools in the region.

Usually, the hiring cycle at CIC begins 1 January for the following school year, and the CIC superintendent typically attends various recruiting fairs internationally each spring. In recent years, interviews have been conducted at Search Associates fairs, the AASSA fair, and the UNI Fair in Iowa. Private interviews have been scheduled in the Greater New York Area. The superintendent may also arrange interviews outside of the formal recruiting fairs using online resources.
