CIC Physical Education Philosophy

Physical Education is an integral part of the total educational program of each student. Through the medium of sport and movement all students will participate in a sequential, differentiated program that fosters each student's personal health, fitness and safety. Through exposure to a wide variety of activities, students will gain the necessary knowledge to understand the importance of and make educated decisions around opportunities to achieve and maintain a healthy lifestyle.

CIC is committed to and supports the development of a positive and appropriate values driven education. Social skills which include but are not limited to respect, cooperation, communication, teamwork and sportsmanship are an important aspect of the Physical Education curriculum and will be directly taught throughout the student's school career.

The values, principles and concepts associated with a quality physical education program surpass the boundaries of the gymnasium and playing fields. Physical activity is a catalyst for learning in all content areas. We are committed to providing programming in physical education which allows frequent and diverse opportunities to engage in physical activities necessary to support a healthy mind and body.

General Rules

ILLNESS:

If a student is unable to participate due to illness or injury they must have a note from their parent/guardian or doctor in order to be excused. If they become ill or injured during the school day they can obtain a note from the school nurse. Failure to bring a note can result in marks being deducted from the participation grade.

TARDINESS:

Any student not changed and ready to warm up, 5 minutes after the official class start time, will be marked as 'Tardy'. Any student not participating must also be present at this time.

UNIFORM POLICY :

Appropriate P.E. uniform must be worn to all classes. Please adhere to the written school uniform policy:

Grades 4-12: Red CIC PE T-Shirt, solid black athletic shorts or sweat pants, appropriate running shoes (with laces or Velcro – not slip-ons), and white socks.

Uniform Policy Enforcement

After 3 classes without uniform, the student will loose 8% of the grade assigned to 'Personal Engagement' . If the student continues to come unprepared, the teacher will contact the parent for a personal or phone interview or send a note that must be returned signed by the parent. Students will be advised that further failures to bring the uniform will result in a reduced mark from their 'Skill' grade, because being unprepared does not allow for a complete and appropriate development of proper habits.
