Ayuda y Amistad is the community service club of CIC (Colegio Internacional de Caracas).
Translated into English, the name means “Help and Friendship.” AyA involves a two-way interaction between the members of the club and the people of the local community, and it is in this way that the very important bonds of friendship are formed.
WHO ARE WE
Members of AyA participate in events organized by the club to interact with the communities outside of the school. The experiences that AyA provides give students a valuable opportunity for character development. Although our school provides an excellent environment for academic and athletic growth, it is not always representative of the surrounding community; we at CIC believe that it is important for students to gain an understanding of the lives of different people around them.
WHY IT’S IMPORTANT
AyA is active throughout the school year and involves the CIC community in many different projects with nearby communities, creating strong bonds in the process. These activities benefit all who take part in them. The members of the club learn the value of service towards others. The children at the orphanages helped by AyA receive not only material benefits, but also gain from the opportunity to learn about different cultures and ways of thinking. Most importantly, both groups are having a lot of fun while helping each other!
WHAT WE DO
The main activities of AyA are centered around the relationships of different institutions in and around the city of Caracas. In the past, these institutions have included local public schools and retirement homes, as well as the orphanages we still visit. The orphanages we visit house children of various ages and backgrounds. The activities of AyA involve helping to clean, repair, and maintainthe orphanage buildings (many of which are older structures). AyA members also visit in order to play with the children and to teach team activities, games, and sports. Local orphanages are often invited to musical and theatrical events hosted by CIC, in which the proceeds then benefit the visiting children. Donations of money, food, and gifts are also provided.
SUPPORT AND FUNDING
AyA is supported by students, parents, and the teachers and staff of CIC. There are two ways to support AyA: (1) Donations directly to the orphanages for the improvement of the facilities (in the form of time, materials, and/or money) (2) Donations to AyA itself (in the form of time and/or money)
Everyone is AyA at CIC!
In order to graduate from CIC, students must perform a requisite amount of community service. For those students enrolled in the IB(International Baccalaureate) Diploma Program, the activities of AyA can be counted as the service component of CAS (Creativity, Action, and Service). For MYP (Middle Years Program) students, AyA activities can be used satisfy the Community and Service requirement.
